SAN BERNARDINO -- You could take your pick at any number of Coyotes who stood out on this night.

And that's what pleases head coach Jeff Oliver more than anything -- a team approach that is infectious and occurring at exactly the right moment and time.

Three Coyotes scored at least 20 points led by junior Lacy Haddock and senior Kwame Alexander with 23 each and junior Brian Goins with 22 as the Coyotes battled back to force overtime and then took control in the five-minute span to earn a heart-stopping 89-78 victory over visiting Sonoma State in the CCAA men's basketball regular-season finale.

The Coyotes take an 18-7 record into the CCAA Tournament first-round game against seventh-seed UC San Diego on Tuesday night at Coussoulis Arena.

Alexander had 23 points to go with 10 rebounds and Mr. Hustle Johnny Bell had 10 points with 12 rebounds with two blocks and three steals. Tack on Haddock's point total and nine assists and Oliver nearly had three players earn a double-double.

On this night against the Seawolves (11-15, 9-13), CSUSB needed everything it could get from its squad as it battled back from a six-point deficit in the final 4:09 in regulation, and then outscored the Seawolves 17-6 in OT for the victory.

The Coyotes, who trailed at halftime 39-33, came out like gangbusters in the second half, outscoring SSU 16-2 in the opening 4 1/2 minutes, but found themselves down 59-57 seven minutes later.

A Jabri Jenkins' free throw gave SSU a 67-61 lead with 4:09 left and the Coyotes needed to make something quick if they were to get back in the game.

And that they did.

Haddock hit a jumper and after a steal by Alexander, Goins hit a 3-pointer and the Coyotes were within a point -- 67-66 with 3:09 left.

After another SSU turnover, the Coyotes had two opportunites to grab the lead and on the third time they did on a jumper from Alexander that put CSUSB up 68-67 with 2:11 left.

A Patrick Scott 3-pointer gave the Seawolves a two-point cushion, but the Coyotes tied the game at 70-70 when Alexander and Haddock each hit a free throw.

Justin Herold then gave SSU the lead on a pair of free throws, but Haddock's floater just 14 seconds later tied the game at 72-72 with 31 seconds left.

After a SSU timeout, the Seawolves had the final possession in regulation with 26 seconds to go. Scott had the ball and drove in the lane, but Bell blocked his shot and the Seawolves could not recover.

In overtime, the Haddock gave the Coyotes the lead for good on a jumper, and then Joshua Gouch buried a 3-pointer and CSUSB went up 77-72.

They eventually built the lead to 11 three times before the buzzer sounded. They hit 9-of-10 from the line in the extra period.

Scott led the Seawolves with 19 points.
