SEASIDE – Ten weeks of CCAA play have put the Coyotes in control in their chase for an eighth consecutive CCAA title.
The Coyotes completed the next to the final week of conference play with a 3-1 win at Cal State Monterey Bay (22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-15) on Saturday night.
CSUSB takes a 22-4 overall record and 18-1 slate in CCAA play heading into Wednesday night's match at UC San Diego. The Coyotes hold a two-match lead over the Tritons (24-3, 16-3) and a win would clinch another conference title against the NCAA West Region's top-ranked team.
CSUSB is ranked third in this week's regional poll that decides the NCAA Tournament field.
Behind
Ashley Solis and
Alexandra Torline, who both had 15 kills, the Coyotes defeated the Otters for the 21
st straight time.
After falling behind 1-0, CSUSB tied the match in the second with a .429 attack percentage and never trailed. Five Coyotes, led by Torline's five kills, had multiple kills in the set and defensively, they had 18 digs.
The third set was the most competitive with six ties and six lead changes. But with the Coyotes down 7-5, they rallied with a 9-2 run – keyed by
Brenna McIntosh's two kills and a block assist with Torline -- and CSUSB led 14-9 and went on to the win.
The Coyotes wasted little time gaining momentum in the fourth and final set as they opened with a 6-0 lead and were never threatened.

Kim Cherniss received an all-round defensive effort from a host of Coyotes. Five players –
Arielle McCullough,
Danielle Newcombe, Sinohui,
Jordan Ortega and Solis – all had double-digit dig efforts, led by McCullough's 26.
McIntosh led with two solo blocks and two block assists.
CSUMB fell to 17-11, 11-9.
