Coyotes dominate Otters in 85-67 win

Alexander leads five Coyotes in double figures with 20 points

Kwame Alexander had 20 points and 9 rebounds in the victory over CSUMB.
Box Score SEASIDE -- Senior center Kwame Alexander led five Coyotes in double figures Saturday night as Cal State San Bernardino rolled past host Cal State Monterey Bay 85-67 in CCAA men's basketball.

Alexander proved yet again that he is among the top big men in the country with 20 points and nine rebounds in a game CSUSB never trailed. He was 8-of-13 from the field and perfect in four attempts from the line as the Moreno Valley native earned consecutive 20-point efforts for the weekend. On Friday, he scored a career-high 26 against CSUEB and finished the weekend hitting 59 percent from the floor.

Junior guard Brian Goins added 13, while juniors Joshua Gouch and Lacy Haddock each had 12 and sophomore Jamari Simmons 11 as the Coyotes scored their most points in more than a month and earned the weekend road sweep.

CSUSB is 10-3 overall and 8-2 in the CCAA, one game behind league-leading Cal Poly Pomona. CSUMB dropped to 7-10, 3-7.

The Otters' gym has been a nightmare of sorts for the Coyotes, who lost in each of their last two seasons. But on this night, CSUSB grabbed the lead from the outset and utilized an 18-4 run to lead 35-12 after a Taylor Statham 3-pointer with 8:45 remaining in the opening half.

The lead never dropped below 13 for the remainder of the game in the one-sided affair.

CSUSB just missed out on hitting 50 percent from the floor, going 31 of 63 on the night. The Coyotes had 12 3-pointers including nine in the first half with Simmons and Gouch hitting three each.

They also were stellar from the line. CSUSB hit 11 of 12 including all six of its attempts in the second half.

Alex Fertig led the Otters with 18 points. Kevin Loustale had the game's only double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The road victory keeps the Coyotes' unbeaten on the season in five contests away from Coussoulis Arena. They will stay on the road for the next two weeks with games at Sonoma State and San Francisco State, respectively, next week.
