No. 15 Coyotes handed 76-60 loss by Cal State Stanislaus

Eight-game winning streak comes to an end

SAN BERNARDINO
– Cal State Stanislaus took control from the opening tip and never let up as No. 15-ranked Cal State San Bernardino was dealt a 76-60 defeat before a crowd of 1,850 at Coussoulis Arena on Friday night.

The loss snapped the Coyotes' eight-game winning streak and also ended a 16-game home winning streak over the Warriors. The victory was CSUS's first in San Bernardino since the series began Dec. 20, 1985 – an 82-55 Warriors' win.

The Coyotes are now 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the CCAA.

Junior Joshua Gouch led the Coyotes with 11 points and junior Brian Goins had 10 as the Coyotes were held to a season-low 33.9 percent effort from the floor (21 for 62). The 60 points also were a season low.

Marcus Walters scored a game-high 26 points to lead three Warriors in double figures. Nick Hodge had 18 and Ray Mitchell 14 for CSUS, now 5-6 and 2-5.

The closest CSUSB got to the lead in the second half was six points. Juan Martinez hit a 3-pointer from the right corner and added a free throw to make a four-point play and CSUSB trailed 46-40 with 14:26 to go.

But the Warriors responded with a 12-4 run and eventually pushed the lead to 17 points.

The Coyotes return to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday night when they take on Chico State. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
