ROHNERT PARK -- Senior
Tre' Brewer scored a career-high 28 points with 5 3-pointers as the Coyotes snapped a three-game losing streak in their 77-70 victory over Sonoma State in CCAA men's basketball Wednesday night.
The Coyotes (14-10 overall and 13-8 CCAA) and the Seawolves (15-10, 13-8) are now tied for fourth place with one game remaining in the regular season. CSUSB is at Humboldt State on Friday, while the Seawolvves play host to UC San Diego. The CCAA Tournament field and first-round sites will be announced at 10 a.m. Saturday at www.goccaa.org.
The Coyotes utilized a 20-8 run late in the second half to earn a spirited win over a SSU team that shot the lights out against the Coyotes last month. SSU's Will Olsem, who scored 38 points with 12 3-pointers in its previous meeting, was held to just eight points and only two 3-pointers.
Brewer was 9-of-18 from the floor and 5-of-11 from the 3-point stripe. His 28 points are the most for a Coyote since March 7, 2009, when Brandon Brown scored 34 in the CCAA Tournament final over Cal State Monterey Bay. His five 3's tie for the most by a Coyote this season.
