LA JOLLA -- Sound defensive play and opportune scoring keyed Cal State San Bernardino as the Coyotes dominated on both ends in a 73-58 victory over UC San Diego in CCAA men's basketball Sunday night at RIMAC Arena.
The Coyotes pushed their winning streak to six games – their best stretch in three seasons – and improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the CCAA heading into Thursday's game at Humboldt State.

Kwame Alexander led the way with 18 points and junior
Lacy Haddock kicked in 12 points as CSUSB held the Tritons to just six second-half field goals and forced 21 turnovers for the game.
A sure sign of dominance against an opponent is forcing more turnovers than field goals made as UCSD committed 21 miscues and just 18 field goals. That inability to control the ball played right into CSUSB's hands as the Coyotes scored 22 points off turnovers.
Tied at 35-35 at halftime, CSUSB pulled away with 12:35 remaining in the game. With UCSD leading 45-44, Alexander connected on a layup that gave the Coyotes the lead for good. CSUSB denied UCSD a field goal over the next 10-plus minutes and grabbed a 10-point lead on junior
Joshua Gouch's jumper that put the Coyotes up 57-47 with 6:59 to go.
CSUSB iced the game on a 7-0 run in the final 1:27 with Haddock hitting five free throws.
Alexander was 8-of-11 from the field with a team-high eight rebounds and two blocks. Haddock was 3-of-5 from the floor and was perfect in five attempts from the line.
Tyler McGrath scored a game-high 19 points for UCSD (1-6, 0-4).
GAME NOTES: The Coyotes improved to 92-3 all-time under coach
Jeff Oliver when they hold the opposition to fewer than 60 points… CSUSB held the Tritons to just 23 points in the second half – the fewest points scored against CSUSB in the final 20 minutes this season… The victory was CSUSB's ninth straight over the Tritons…
