ONTARIO
-- Junior guard Lacy Haddock played perhaps his finest all-around game this season, scoring 23 points with seven rebounds and six assists as the Coyotes fought back and earned an 86-82 nonconference victory over Azusa Pacific at the Coyote Holiday Classic at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Haddock earned his most productive scoring output as the Coyotes improved their winning streak to five games and are 5-1 overall heading into their Dec. 30 game at UC San Diego.

The Coyotes found themselves down throughout most of the first half and trailed by 13 with 16:51 remaining in the game.

Reserve guard Jamari Simmons keyed a 10-0 run with two 3-pointers as the Coyotes cut the Cougars' lead to 52-49 with 13:44 remaining.

Simmons later tied the game at 58-58 at 9:54 with another three as that opened a 16-3 run over the next four-plus minutes.

But thanks to the efforts of APU's Troy Leaf, the Cougars would not go away. Leaf scored 12 of his game-high 30 points in the next three minutes and teammate B.J. Porter hit a 3-pointer that tied the game at 80-80 with 1:16 left.

On the Coyotes' next possession, Haddock brought the ball down and attempted a sweet, rainbow shot from 17 feet that roped the net and gave the Coyotes the lead for good at 82-80 with 45 seconds left.

CSUSB then hit four free throws down the stretch for the win.

Haddock was 8-of-12 from the floor with two 3-pointers and four free throws. He shared team-high rebound honors with senior Kwame Alexander.

Junior guard Brian Goins had 18 points, hitting 7 of 15 and had four assists with three steals.

Simmons was outstanding from outside as he scored 19 points off the bench with a career-high five 3-pointers as CSUSB hit 10-of-20 from 3-point land.

Alexander had 10 points in 22 minutes off the bench.

Both teams shot 50 percent fromt the floor. The Coyotes forced 17 APU turnovers and converted 25 points off turnovers.
