CHICO -- A five-point play from Jay Flores cut a momentum builder from Cal State San Bernardino with 94 seconds remaining in Friday's game and host Chico State went on to earn a 63-56 CCAA men's basketball victory at Acker Gym.
The loss for CSUSB (6-4 overall, 5-2 CCAA) was its fourth in its last six games as the Coyotes move on to Saturday night's game at Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday. The Wildcats are 10-3, 4-3.
Down 36-21 at halftime, the Coyotes battled back and cut the Wildcats' lead to two on
Kwame Alexander's dunk with 1:34 remaining in the game and CSUSB down 56-54.
But Alexander was called for a technical for hanging on the rim and Flores made the Coyotes pay. He hit two free throws and added a three-pointer on the possession and Chico State led 61-54 with 1:07 left.
Flores led Chico State with 15 points as it snapped a six-game losing streak against the Coyotes and won for the first time on its home court against CSUSB since Feb. 11, 2006.
Senior Tre Brewer led CSUSB with 15 points and Alexander had 13.
Chico State hit nine 3-pointers, a season best against the Coyotes.
