LOS ANGELES -- Unbeaten Cal State San Bernardino stormed out to an 18-point lead at halftime and finished off previously unbeaten Cal State L.A., 61-48, in a CCAA conference men's basketball game in the Eagles Nest.
The Coyotes, 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA, will play at Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.
Theron Laudermill led the Coyotes with 13 points and nine rebounds. He sank 11 of 12 free throws.
Kwame Alexander had 10 points and six rebounds and
Johnny Bell had his best game as a Coyote with 11 points and eight rebounds.
CSUSB shot 44 percent from the field (17 of 39) and 42 percent from the three (5 of 12) and made 78 percent of its free throws (22 of 28). The Coyotes led in rebounds 35-29 but also led in turnovers with 24 to the Eagles 20.
Cal State L.A.'s poor outside shooting (hitting just three of 17 shots from three-point range) contributed to its first loss of the season. The Golden Eagles are 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA.
CSUSB's defense limited the Golden Eagles to 35-percent overall shooting from the floor. In addition, the hosts were successful on just nine of 21 free throws -- a frigid 43 percent.
Ryan Wetherell and Quentin Watkins led Cal State L.A. with eight points apiece.
