PHOENIX -- Senior
Theron Laudermill's 19 points and 10 rebounds led Cal State San Bernardino, but the Coyotes were stymied by poor shooting and ball control in a 76-65 loss to Dixie State in nonconference men's basketball played at the Grand Canyon Christmas Tourney.
The Coyotes lost for the first time this season in five games and take on host Grand Canyon at 5 p.m. PST Saturday.
CSUSB hit five of its first eight shots to open the contest, but over the next 15-plus minutes of play, the Coyotes were successful on only three shots on 21 attempts for an 8-of-29 effort from the field as Dixie State built a nine-point lead at the half, 38-29.

Jeff Oliver's crew finished the night hitting 32.1 percent (18 for 56) from the field, but remained in the game thanks to their stellar 20 of 22 effort from the free throw line. They also were hampered by 21 turnovers.
Dixie State grabbed the lead for good on a three-pointer from Maurice Cole that put the Red Storm up 22-20 with 6:02 left in the first half.
In the second half, DSC didn't let the lead go less than five points and led by as much as 14 on Griffon Jones' jumper, putting the Red Storm up 58-44 with 8:58 left.

Tre' Brewer came off the bench with 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
Matt Wallace also had three 3-pointers and finished with nine points.

Nate Roth played in his first contest of the season and dealt four assists with three points and three rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.
Cole led DSC (5-3) with a game-high 22 points to lead four players in double figures.
