SAN BERNARDINO --
Two days after becoming the nation's top-ranked team, senior MB Samantha Middleborn showed why she was named the nation's top player last season and has an inside track on earning yet another national honor this season.

Middleborn led the Coyotes' attack with 15 kills, a .462 attack percentage and had three solo blocks and three block assists as CSUSB took care of No. 15 UC San Diego 25-19, 25-14, 25-21 in CCAA play Wednesday night.

The victory extends CSUSB's record-setting winning streak to 25 matches and enhances its chances at hosting next week's NCAA West Regional. The CCAA champion Coyotes are ranked No. 1 in the NCAA West Regional and defeated this week's second-ranked team in the region in decisive manner.

Senior Morgan Carty added eight kills and 19 digs, and fellow senior Priscilla Collings had six as CSUSB also extended its Coussoulis Arena winning streak to 59 overall consecutive matches and 42 straight CCAA matches.

Just two lead changes took place in the match as CSUSB (25-0, 20-0 CCAA) was in complete control from the outset. The Tritons (19-5 overall, 15-5 CCAA) had more attack errors than kills through the first two sets and never were in the match.

Junior All-American setter Camille Smith had 35 assists, and sophomore Danielle Newcombe led in service aces with three. Senior libero Kelcie Tolan had 15 digs, while Smith also had two block assists.

The Coyotes face Cal State Monterey Bay at 5 p.m. Friday and complete the weekend with Senior Day on Saturday against Cal State East Bay.

UCSD was led by Roxanne Brunsting's eight kills. It was held to a .043 attack percentage (27-22-117).
