A 5-0 lead that began the match paved the way to a first set win for the Coyotes, who have not lost an opening set in 2011. CSUEB came back to tie the match at 1-1, despite CSUSB leading 24-22. Three kills from the Pioneers' Katie Allen allowed her team to win the second set.
In the third set, the Coyotes had a 12-2-30 effort on the attack and again, never trailed in going up 2-1.
A 6-0 run allowed CSUSB to come back after trailing 7-4. Both teams traded the lead until Johnson put the Coyotes up 20-19. She later added another kill, and kills from Carty and Carty put CSUSB up 23-19.
The teams traded kills and after two kills from CSUEB, Middleborn made the sure the Coyotes would leave Pioneer Gym a winner with her 19th kill on the night.
CSUSB completes the weekend at CSU Monterey Bay on Saturday night.
The Pioneers dropped to 10-5, 5-5.
