Box Score: Coyotes 74, CSU East Bay 51
HAYWARD -- Sophomore
Kwame Alexander provided the Coyotes with a second-half lift, finishing with his first career double-double as CSU San Bernardino defeated Cal State East Bay 74-51 in CCAA men's basketball Saturday night.
Alexander scored 14 points with 10 rebounds, three dunks and four assists in 19 minutes as the Coyotes improved to 10-5 overall and 8-3 in the CCAA. Senior guard
Corey Caston also had 14 points with three assists and senior
Robbie Robinson had 11 points with six rebounds.
The Coyotes completed the week with their third game in five days and found another gear late when the Pioneers, who trailed through most of the game, cut the Coyotes' lead to 51-43 with 8:30 left.
Alexander was the key as he scored nine points with three dunks in three-plus minutes as CSUSB answered with a 13-0 run and led 64-43 with 5:03 left.
CSUSB trailed just once -- 14-13 -- with 7:20 remaining in the first half. That provided a necessary response from the Coyotes and head coach
Jeff Oliver was not disappointed as CSUSB went on a 19-4 run as five different Coyotes scored in that stretch.
Roshun Wynne was the only Pioneer who scored in double figures. He finished with 15, but the the rest of his teammates struggled as they shot a combined 11-for-40 -- 27.5 percent.
Senior
David Jefferson just missed out on a double-double with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
CSUSB will return to the Bay Area next week with games at San Francisco State (Friday) and CSU Monterey Bay (Saturday).
