Robbie Robinson showed he can light up from downtown Thursday night as the Northridge native scored a season-high 23 points on six 3-pointers to give host Cal State San Bernardino a decisive 84-60 victory over previous conference unbeaten San Francisco State before a crowd of 482 at Coussoulis Arena.
Robinson was 5-of-5 from 3-point land in the first half as the Coyotes improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA. The Gators are now 6-3, 4-1.
CSUSB never trailed in its game against the Gators and their first-year coach Paul Trevor, who returned to the place where he spent the last eight seasons as Coyotes coach
Jeff Oliver's top assistant. The Coyotes scored the game's first seven points and the Gators could only get as close as four points the rest of the way and trailed by as many as 27 with 8:03 remaining in the game.
Robinson finished the night 8 of 12 from the floor and was 6 of 8 from the 3-point stripe. He finished with four rebounds and a steal in 25 minutes of work.
Robinson led four players in double figures as senior
David Jefferson added 16 points with five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Senior guard
Corey Caston delivered with 14 points, five assists and three steals without a turnover in 27 minutes. And senior guard
Aaron Hill scored 10 points and added five assists in the blowout.
The Coyotes shot a season-best 48.4 percent from the floor (30-62) and outscored the Gators 30-6 from the 3-point stripe.
Junior
Theron Laudermill scored eight points and was perfect from the free throw line (6-6). He also had seven rebounds.
The Gators were led by Nefi Perdomo's 17 points and Tim Pratt added 12. Senior Marquel Hoskins, who was last season's CCAA Newcomer of the Year, was held to just three points as he was 1-of-5 from the floor in 24 minutes. He dished out a game-high six assists.
The Coyotes are off until Jan. 6 when they play at Humboldt State.
