SANTA BARBARA -- Senior guard
Corey Caston scored 20 points as visiting Cal State San Bernardino earned its first victory of the season with a 77-73 overtime win over host Westmont in nonconference men's basketball Saturday night.
The Coyotes (1-1 overall) are off until Dec. 3 when they open CCAA play at Cal State L.A.
CSUSB fired 40.6 percent from the floor (26 of 64) and outshot Westmont 21-9 from the 3-point line.
Senior
Ryan Kinney scored 11 points off the bench for the Coyotes and senior
David Jefferson added 10 points in the win.
Trailing 63-60 with 45 seconds to go, Caston cut the deficit to one on a layup with 36 seconds left. The Coyotes then fouled Dan Rasp with 20 seconds to go and he missed both free throws.
The Coyotes held the ball on the final possession. Kinney fired a 3-pointer and missed and #D.J. Shumpert# missed a shot close off his offensive rebound.
Senior
Donnell Fleming followed with a rebound and was fouled with one second left. He missed the first, made the second and the game went into OT.
In overtime, Caston and Shumpert each hit field goals in the early going and the Coyotes went up by six at 69-63 on a pair of
Theron Laudermill free throws with 2:19 left.
Senior guard
Aaron Hill then hit five of six free throws inside the final minute for the win.
Preston Branson led Westmont with 32 points on 12-of-13 from the line.
