Tom Mainez Jr.

Thomas Mainez Jr. begins his 11th season coaching the Coyotes' golf team in 2015-16 and returned the Coyotes to the NCAA Tournament in 2015.

During the past 10 years, the Coyotes have become a fixture on the NCAA Division II scene, capped by their NCAA runner-up finish in 2009, seven NCAA regional berths (2006-11 and 2015) and four final appearances (2006-09).

The Coyotes placed inside the top 20 at the national event in each of his first four seasons and missed out on making five straight in 2010 when the Coyotes played host to the NCAA West Regional, held at the Classic Club in Palm Desert.

Mainez coached Gene Webster to three All-America honors in his career and Micah Burke added another by virtue of his ninth-place finish at the 2009 Championships. In 2010-11, Kenny Pigman was named the CCAA's Player of the Year and went on to earn All-America honors.

Mainez took over the program during the 2005-06 season and led the Coyotes to a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Division II championships and a fifth-place finish at the NCAA West Regional.

In 2006-07, the Coyotes finished 11th at the NCAAs after winning the NCAA West Regional and finishing second in the CCAA Tournament.

In 2007-08, CSUSB finished second in the CCAA and qualified for a third straight trip to the NCAAs where the team finished 18th.

Mainez, who played collegiately at UC Davis, is a 1995 graduate of Cal State San Bernardino and earned his master's degree in education from National University.

He currently teaches physical education and earned his Class A PGA membership card in 1997-98 and competed on the Nike Tour in 1999. Â
