    BEFORE CAL STATE: Sterling played one year of basketball at Illinois Central College where he was starting point guard for a team ranked No. 2 in the nation. He also attended Spoon River College.
    HIGH SCHOOL: He is a 2005 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Bloomington, Ill. where he was a third-team all-star, MVP of the team his senior year.
    PERSONAL: Sterling is an English major. His mother is Margarita Alvarez. He has one sibling.
