The 2024-25 season will mark Micah Dykes' second season as assistant coach at CSUSB. Dykes played a heavy role in basketball operations, player development and the creation of graphic designs during the 2023-24 season, helping assist first-year head coach Gus Argenal, as the mens basketball program went 27-8, capturing a CCAA Regular Season Championship, West Region Championship, and advancing to the Division II Final Four.Â
Dykes was announced as an assistant coach on the Cal State San Bernardino men's basketball team in September 2023. Dykes came to San Bernardino after serving as the associate head coach at both Paramount High School and Mayfair High School in 2021-22 and 2022-23, respectively, leading both programs to playoff and state playoff berths. Dykes also brings collegiate experience to CSUSB, having been the men's basketball student assistant at Texas Southern University from 2018-21.
Â
During his time with the Tigers, Dykes was involved with player development and helped lead TSU to a SWAC Tournament championship in 2021. The Tigers owned a 17-9 record (10-3 in conference) that season and knocked off Mount St. Mary's in the First Four, ultimately falling to #1 Michigan in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. Dykes worked under Johnny Jones at Texas Southern, who is the former head coach at LSU, North Texas, and Nevada. In addition to coaching, Dykes also graduated from TSU in 2021 with a degree in Sports Management.
Â
"Micah has all the makings of a young coach on the rise," said Argenal when Dykes was hired. "His background being from Southern California, involved with grassroots basketball and the high school ranks, will allow him to seamlessly recruit and connect with potential student-athletes. He is an extremely talented skill developer who combines knowledge of the game with great energy and passion. His addition to our staff is a big one as we try to mentor our student-athletes and impact lives."
Â
Dykes also has coaching experience in the local AAU circuits at places like Los Angeles Elite and the Basketball Training Institute (BTI), as well as professional development for overseas and NBA player personnel. He is a 2016 graduate of Serra High School, located in Gardena, Calif.
