POMONA, Calif. - The CSUSB women's soccer team tied with Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday afternoon with a final score of 1-1. The Yotes now hold a 2-3-1 overall record.
The first half of this captivating match did not disappoint. From the first whistle, it was evident the Yotes were at Kellogg Stadium to compete. The Yotes offense was able to take 3 shots in the first ten minutes of the games, testing both the goalkeeper and Pomona defense. With seven shots registered on the scoreboard, led by Kaylen Gonzalez and Alyssa Rubio, the Yotes clearly had their sights set on breaking the deadlock in the first 45 minutes.Â
The Yotes goalkeeper, Leila Peregrina, showcased her abilities with three remarkable saves. These crucial interventions denied the Broncos from taking the lead and kept the scoreline level going into the second half. Â
The Yotes carried their momentum into the second half, with Rebecca Cruz forcing two saves out of the Broncos' goalkeeper in the 46th and 47th minute. This momentum was stifled by Bailey McNitt finding the back of the net in the 52nd minute, giving the Broncos a 1-0 lead.Â
In the 55th minute, Kaylen Gonzalez exploded down the right side of the field and beat the Broncos' center back, but her shot was saved by Bella Hara. The half continued with the Yotes and Broncos swapping possessions, until the Yotes finally broke through.Â
In the 68th minute, Rosalie Hawkins collected the ball near the half line and served it into the box. The target, Nathaly Losada Lucumi, took one touch to control the ball and the next touch to hammer it home!
In the final minute of the game, Cal Poly Pomona's Jacyln Cuevas collected the ball in the 18-yard box and shot to break the draw for the Broncos. The Yotes defense blocked the final attempt and finished the game in a 1-1 draw.Â
Leila Peregrina would finish the game with 4 saves overall, bringing her season total to 20 saves.Â
