SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB women's soccer team missed out on the 2023 CCAA tournament after a 1-0 loss against Cal Poly Pomona at Premier Field. The Yotes missed the tournament by just one point.
The Yotes finish the season with an 8-6-4 (.56) overall record, securing the seventh spot in the CCAA standings with a 5-3-3 (.59) conference record. This marks the second time since 2016 that the Yotes have ended a season with a winning percentage above .500, and it is also the best conference win record since Peters took over the program.
Thursday's match featured two evenly matched teams, with both recording similar shot totals of 11 for the Broncos and 7 for the Yotes. The Broncos took control of the game in the 60th minute, with Alexis Macias scoring.
Despite shots from four different players, including multiple attempts from
Nathaly Losada Lucumi and
Kaylen Gonzalez, the Yotes were unable to find the back of the net. Thanks to the Broncos' resilient defensive efforts, the game ended in a 0-1 loss.
Junior goalkeeper
Leila Peregrina recorded five saves in the game, marking the fifth time she has done so this season. Peregrina is responsible for four solo shutouts this year and has totaled 54 saves, resulting in a .720 save average. New addition to the defense,
Rosalie Hawkins, had an outstanding season, contributing 2 assists in addition to her strong defensive performances.
Three Yotes players scored over five goals this season. Most notably,
Nathaly Losada Lucumi ended the season with 8 goals and 2 assists, totaling 16 points overall. At the conclusion of the season, Lucumi leads the CCAA in goals scored.
Kaylen Gonzalez also had an exceptional season with 6 goals and 2 assists, placing her in the top ten in the CCAA.
Unieque Solis contributed 5 goals and 1 assist.
With the team showing improvement each year, the Yotes are optimistic about securing a tournament berth next year.
