CSUSB Women’s Soccer team travels to the Northwest this weekend

The CSUSB Women's Soccer team travels to the Northwest this weekend to continue non-conference play and will face off against GNAC foes Central Washington on Sunday and the Falcons of Seattle Pacific Tuesday, September 11th at 1:00pm.

The Yotes look to use the road trip to rebound after dropping their first two matches of the season.  In the first match of the year, the Coyotes fell behind Dixie State early and were never able to put the equalizer in the net.  The Trailblazers used an aggressive offensive attack to keep CSUSB on their heels as Dixie State fired 18 total shots, despite an amazing performance by first year goalkeeper Carly Luna.  The Yotes dropped the match 2-0.

In their second game, CSUSB squared off against Concordia Irvine.  This match, like the previous, started with the Yotes behind in the first half as Concordia was able to find the back of the net in the 36th minute, the lone goal before half time for either team.  CSUSB came out hot in the second half notching their first goal of the season and the first goal of Kelly Kevershan CSUSB's career, assisted by Valerie Warren, but dropped the match 3-1.

For her nine saves against Dixie State, Goalkeeper Carly Luna was nominated for CCAA Player of the Week.

Despite the two losses, Coach LeBaron Hollimon is very optimistic moving forward, "From a results standpoint, the first few games didn't go as well as we had hoped."  As Hollimon points out, these strong non-conference matchups are allowing this young team to learn some very valuable lessons.  "Our conference is so talented and strong and I'm very excited to see how we measure up.  These strong non-conference games will give us the preparation necessary to enter conference play with good strength of character and confidence."

The road trip will be a good test for the young Yotes before they come home to finish their non-conference schedule and begin CCAA play.  The brief, two match trip will be followed by five straight matches at Premier Field to close out the month of September.
