SAN BERNARDINO (Feb. 25, 2017) — Briana Quintana fouled off six pitches, and then came through on a walk-off single to left in the ninth inning as CSUSB earned a split over No. 16 UC San Diego at Coyote Park on Saturday.
The Coyotes took three of four from the Tritons — and all three wins were by a walk off. CSUSB improved to 9-5 overall, 4-2 CCAA. UCSD dropped to 10-4 and 5-3.
Game 1: UCSD 5, Coyotes 3
Morgan Ratliff delivered a two-run home run and
Caitlyn Olan added a solo shot, but it wasn't enough for the Coyotes in the opener.
Lauren Sanders broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth that delivered the win for the Tritons.
Jessica Brown had two hits with one double.
Cassandra Williams came on in relief of starter
Amanda Ramirez in the fifth inning. Willliams got the loss, giving up three runs (one earned).
Game 2: Coyotes 4, UCSD 3 9 innings
Kaylee Gemmell had a pair of one-run singles and Jessica Angula added a fielder's choice RBI for the Coyotes' runs in the early going.
Gemmell singled to left in the first and that scored Ratlff. Angulo got her RBI in the fourth.
Kelsi Maday gave UCSD its runs in the fifth on a three-run double.
In the ninth, Gemmell led off with a double to left.
Caelan Smith advanced Gemmell to third on a sac bunt. Angulo chopped the ball in front of the plate for a single, but couldn't advance Gemmell.
That didn't seem to matter, because Quintana fought off Lizzy Beuter until she lifted a liner to left that brought in the Coyotes' third walk-off win in the series.
Ramirez earned the win with four innings and improved to 4-0. She had two strikeouts.
