Box Score SAN BERNARDINO – Coach
Jeff Oliver sleeps well at night knowing Coyotes point guard
Lacy Haddock is one of the best playmakers on the West Coast.
What the Las Vegas, Nev., senior showed Saturday night will give his coach an even more enjoyable slumber.
Haddock, the CCAA's leading assist maker, scored a career-high and team season-best 28 points on 11-of-13 shooting with four 3-pointers and seven assists to lead the 19
th-ranked Coyotes past visiting Cal State Stanislaus 87-72 in CCAA play at Coussoulis Arena.
The victory marked the Coyotes' ninth straight and kept their remarkable streaks of quality play intact. CSUSB, now 9-1 overall and a league-leading 6-0, shot a season-best 59.6 percent (34 of 57) – its sixth straight game of at least 50 percent shooting – and never trailed in the second half for the sixth straight time.
Seniors
Andrew Young and
Jordan Burris each scored 14, while junior
Juan Martinez had 12 and sophomore reserve
Zeke DeBlase added 11 as CSUSB scored 11 3-pointers and distributed 20 assists in a well-rounded victory.
The stories on this night revolved around Haddock and the Coyotes' ability to put another team away in the second half.
The prime example came with 15:36 remaining in the game. The Coyotes led 52-50 and over the next six minutes outscored the Warriors 15-2 with Haddock providing a 3-pointer and a layup, and also handing out assists to both DeBlase and Martinez, who scored 3-pointers in the span.
In the second half, CSUSB shot 68 percent from the floor and later built the lead to as much as 22 (84-62) on Martinez' third and final 3 on the night with 4:29 left.
Burris earned his first double-double of the season with a game-high 10 rebounds, while four different Coyotes had multiple assists. Senior
Kirby Gardner had five and five points, while Martinez dished three assists and Young dealt two.
The stretch of 50 percent FG success is the longest such streak in Oliver's 12 years and the nine-game winning streak is the fifth best in his tenure.
Cal State Stanislaus (7-2, 3-3) was led by Marcus Bell's 17 points.
