Box Score SAN BERNARDINO – Balanced scoring and efficiency from top to bottom were the difference makers in the 14
th-ranked Coyotes' 91-74 win over visiting Cal State East Bay in CCAA basketball Saturday night at Coussoulis Arena.
Senior
Jordan Burris led a season-best six Coyotes in double figures with 18 points as CSUSB took control in the second half for its 11
th straight win. It pushed its streak to nine straight games of never trailing in the second half, but saw its eight-game streak of hitting 50 percent from the field end by one field goal – 29 of 59 (49.2 percent).
The Coyotes, who led 44-42 at the break, grabbed control with a 17-5 run over the first seven minutes of the second half. Burris accounted for seven and fellow senior
Lacy Haddock added five in that pivotal stretch for the Coyotes, who did not allow their lead to get fewer than 12 points over the final 12-plus minutes of play.
The 6-foot-2 Gardner gave the Coyotes their largest lead of the game on a solid dunk over a Pioneer defender that lifted CSUSB ahead by 24 (86-62) with 5:17 left.
Burris had only three field goals (two 3-pointers), but finished 10 of 11 from the line and led the Coyotes in rebounds with eight. Gardner had 16 points with five rebounds and four assists, and junior reserve
Taylor Statham had 14 with a pair of 3-pointers.
Center Casey Oldenmoppen played well with a season-high 12 points.
Coach
Jeff Oliver got solid distribution from his team as eight players combined on 22 assists. Haddock led with nine, along with 12 points, and senior
Joshua Gouch had four.
Oliver also had sound bench play as the Coyotes' reserves outscored their foes, 33-16. Sophomore
Zeke DeBlase had 11 points and
Christian Cooper had eight points in 15 minutes.
CSUEB (6-8, 3-5) was led by Mark Samuels' game-high 20 points. Gabe Kindred had 18.
The Coyotes step away from Coussoulis Arena for the first time since Dec. 22 when they play at San Francisco State on Friday night.
