SAN BERNARDINO -- A week ago, the Coyotes were reeling after they needed a 20-point come back for a victory against Cal State Monterey Bay and played in a disinterested manner in a 10-point loss to Cal State East Bay.

But what the NCAA West Region's sixth-ranked Coyotes displayed Thursday night against San Francisco State was as impressive an output that anyone could hope to receive.

In a display of quality and teamwork, the Coyotes dismantled the Gators by an 89-58 margin that featured a 41-point lead with 10 minutes remaining in the game and a whopping 30 assists.

Junior guard Lacy Haddock dealt a school-record 14 assists and fellow junior Brian Goins scored a game-high 18 points as the Coyotes took control in the first half, and then added pressure to the pedal to win against the NCAA West Region's eighth-place team.

This was a victory that the Coyotes (17-7 overall and 15-6 CCAA) needed. They played as a unit and generated an incredible amount of offense off the defensive end. They outscored the Gators 29-4 off turnovers and ruled in the paint by a 34-16 margin.

It was as dominating a performance that coach Jeff Oliver could want.

Five players finished in double figures for the Coyotes. After Goins' effort, senior Kwame Alexander followed with 15, senior Johnny Bell had 14, senior Pablo Genevo 13 and Haddock had 10, to go along with his stellar effort dishing the ball.

The victory also secured the second seed in next week's CCAA Tournament. The Coyotes will play either UC San Diego or Sonoma State at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Coussoulis Arena.

At the 18:30 mark in the first half, CSUSB opened up the floodgates with a 20-5 run that stunned the Gators. Three 3-pointers from Goins, Bell and Haddock, along with five points from Alexander gave the Coyotes a 23-8 lead with 12:16 left.

The Coyotes later extended their lead to 30 twice inside the final five minutes and went into halftime leading 53-25 -- their largest first-half offensive effort since scoring 53 in the season opener at Westmont.

If there was any thought of a relapse in the final 20 minutes, it disappeared quickly as built the lead to as large as 41 when they benefitted from a 17-5 run capped by Bell's 3-pointer with 10 minutes left and CSUSB leading 80-39.

That 41-point lead was CSUSB's largest since a 38-point advantage against Western Washington two seasons ago.

The Coyotes shot 30-for-64 from the floor, good for 53.1 percent and they scored 12 3-pointers, the fifth time this season they hit that mark.

CSUSB completes its regular season Friday night at home against Sonoma State. The Coyotes will honor their four seniors -- Alexander, Bell, R.J. Funnamark and Genevo in a pregame ceremony.
