Box Score
CHICO -- Kwame Alexander scored 14 of his game-high 17 points in the second half, but the Coyotes came up short against Chico State, losing 64-61 in CCAA play Friday night.

Brian Goins had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but the shot was off and CSUSB lost its first conference road game of the season and its first overall since the season opener at Westmont.

Alexander was 6-of-12 from the floor and hit 5-of-7 free throws for 17 and also grabbed 10 rebounds. The double-double was his eighth of the season and his 15th in his career.

He also improved to seventh in career free throws (204) and fifth in free throw attempts (331).

This was a night that saw the Coyotes struggle offensively. Their 61 points was the second-lowest of the season after hitting 21 of 60 field goals for 35 percent. Goins, who entered as the team's best scorer at more than 15 points per game, hit just 4 of 18 and finished with 11 points.

Reserve Juan Martinez came off the bench with a season-high 13.

The lead changed seven times with three ties and CSUSB never led in the second half. Still, the Coyotes had their chances inside the final 90 seconds of the game.

After Goins' 3-pointer cut the Wildcats' lead to 64-61, Chico State missed two attempts, then turned the ball over on an over-and-back call with 27 seconds left.

Goins missed on a jumper with 17 seconds left and held possession of the ball on a team rebound. After a timeout, the Coyotes worked the ball around and Goins fired a three at the buzzer that was contested and could not find the mark.

Outside threat Jamari Simmons did not dress due to illness. His status for Saturday will be a game-time decision.

Amir Carraway led Chico State with 16 points including 9-of-9 from the line. Rashad Parker had 11 and was perfect from the line in five attempts.

The win marked the second straight season the Wildcats (12-9, 9-8) swept the season series against the Coyotes.
