ARCATA --
A second-half rally told the tale in Thursday night's 75-70 Coyotes' win over Humboldt State in CCAA men's basketball.

The Coyotes struck with a 17-4 run in a nearly eight- minute span for their seventh straight win -- their best stretch of success since winning seven straight near the end of the 2009-10 season.

Junior Brian Goins led the Coyotes with 17 points on 7-of-16 shooting with three 3-pointers, while senior Kwame Alexander earned his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Joshua Gouch had 10 points with two steals off the bench.

Down 59-50 with 9:10 left in the game, CSUSB clawed back with balanced scoring. Goins got the run in gear with a 3-pointer and junior Lacy Haddock added a pair of free throws and CSUSB trailed 59-55 with 8:14 left.

Alexander added a dunk and after HSU's Alex Williams' layup, Alexander added a free throw and the deficit was cut to three -- 61-58 with 4:46 left.

Goins brought the Coyotes to within a point with a dunk, but Rakim Brown put HSU back up by three with a pair of free throws with 3:36 left -- 63-60.

Gouch's layup got the Coyotes to within a point again and they grabbed the lead for good with a Goins' 3-pointer with 1:26 left and CSUSB up 65-63.

Gouch was the beneficiary of a Haddock steal, and scored on the assist from Johnny Bell and the Coyotes led 67-63 with 35 seconds left.

Bell and Haddock combined for three free throws in the final 15 seconds and the Coyotes had their hard-fought win.

The win was CSUSB's first over the Lumberjacks in their last five meetings.
CSUSB now takes its 7-1 overall mark and 5-0 CCAA slate into Saturday night's battle for the top spot in the conference as they play at co-CCAA leader Cal Poly Pomona, which held off upstart UC San Diego 51-50 on Thursday.
