SAN BERNARDINO – One night after its poorest effort of the season, No. 15-ranked Cal State San Bernardino played with much better effort, but visiting Chico State found enough to outlast the Coyotes 69-65 in CCAA men's basketball Saturday night.
The loss was CSUSB's second straight as it takes an 8-3 overall mark and 6-2 CCAA slate into next week's games at Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay.
Four Coyotes scored in double figures with
Pablo Genevo,
Brian Goins and
Kwame Alexander all scoring 15 as CSUSB had a chance for the tie with six seconds remaining, but could not get any closer.
With Chico State leading 67-65, Coyote junior guard
Lacy Haddock was at the foul line with two shots. An 84-percent foul shooter, Haddock missed the first and then fired the second that was intended for an offensive rebound. But the Wildcats' Jordan Semple gathered the rebound, was fouled and hit both free throws to secure the game.

CSUSB answered with a jumper from Haddock, a dunk from Alexander and a jumper from senior
Johnny Bell and the Coyotes trailed 54-50 with 9:31 left.
