SAN BERNARDINO
-- Coyotes' coach Jeff Oliver can chalk up Friday night's 74-53 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills to two things -- rebounding and effort.

Oh, and it helps to have a pair of guards who can score.

Behind junior Lacy Haddock's game-high 21 points, the Coyotes put the pressure on CSUDH early, grabbing a lead for good at the 12-minute mark of the first half to run away in the 21-point rout over the Toros (4-4,1-1).

Haddock hit 7-of-13 from the floor with three 3-pointers and a 4-of-4 effort from the line in 31 minutes. He also added three assists, including a sweep 360-spin dish to teammate Johnny Bell late in the second half.

Junior guard Brian Goins added 14, while the Coyotes, now 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA, received quality rebounding efforts from senior post Pablo Genevo, who pulled down a career-high 14 boards with seven points. Bell also earned double-digits in rebounds with 10 and had six points.

The Coyotes' owned the edge in rebounding (44-43) and also forced 16 Toros turnovers that translated into a 20-7 edge in points off turnovers. All hustle and effort plays that please a coach and the 519 in attendance in Coussoulis Arena.

After the Toros' DeShaun Freeman tied the game at 14-14 on a layup, the Coyotes enjoyed an 8-0 run -- a layup from Robert McCall, free throw from Juan Martinez and a 3-pointer from Goins and CSUSB led 22-14 with 7:35 left in the half.

The Toros later cut the Coyotes' lead to one -- 27-26, but Haddock answered with a three and the Coyotes went into the break leading 32-29.

It didn't take long for Haddock to heat up in the second half as his 3-pointer at the 19:21 mark began a 20-8 run and CSUSB led 52-38 with 12:32 left.

A Genevo jumper with 3:40 to go gave the Coyotes their largest lead of the game -- 72-47.

Sophomore guard Jamari Simmons had nine off the bench and junior Joshua Gouch added six in a reserve role as CSUSB showed off its depth, owning the advantage in bench points -- 21-12.

Freeman led the Toros with 12 points.

The Coyotes, who earned their 400th win as a Division II member, return to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday against Cal State L.A. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
