SAN BERNARDINO
-- No. 8 Cal Poly Pomona scored 12 unanswered points in overtime and that was enough for the visiting Broncos in their 85-76 win over host Cal State San Bernardino in a game for first place in the CCAA race Thursday night at Coussoulis Arena.

The Coyotes, who are now 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the CCAA, will look to put aside a disappointing loss as they face San Francisco State on Friday. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.

Senior Tre Brewer led three Coyotes in double figures with 21 points. Junior Kwame Alexander had his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds and senior Matt Wallace scored 17 points off the bench.

Down 35-29 at halftime, the Coyotes overcame a seven-point deficit and earned their first lead of the game when Wallace buried a 3-pointer that put CSUSB up 48-46 with 12:03 left.

After Tyquan Brown hit two free throws that put CPP up 55-51, the Coyotes answered with a 12-2 run and went ahead 63-57 on Alexander's two free throws with 5:10 left.

A dunk from Alexander gave CSUSB a 66-61 lead with 2:24 left, but a 3-pointer from Andrew Steel and a layup from Matt Rosser with 1:10 left tied the game at 66-all.

The Coyotes had a chance for the win after Brown's charging foul that Wallace drew with 29 seconds left.

After a CSUSB timeout, Nate Schulte's 3-pointer was blocked by Terrance Drisdom wtih two seconds left and forced OT.

In OT, Schulte's two free throws put CSUSB ahead 73-71 with 2:42 left. But a Mitchel Anderson three and another from Steel following a turnover ignited the Broncos' 12-0 run and the Coyotes couldnt' get any closer than seven down the stretch.

Anderson scored a game-high 23 points with 10 rebounds and Steel added 14 points off the bench. Matt Rosser had 13 and Brown 10 for the Broncos, now 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the CCAA.

A key for CPP was its outside shooting. After going 0-for-5 from the 3-point stripe in the first half, the Broncos finished 7 of 9 in the final 25 minutes.

Senior Nate Roth played just three minutes and left the game due to a knee injury. His status was unknown for tomorrow night's game against the Gators.
