Webster Edged in Final Day

Gene Webster Jr. just missed the invitaitonal title by two strokes

CSUSB went from dropped six places from the first round through the final round.

PHOENIX — Cal State San Bernardino fell back three more places from Monday to finish in a tie for 10th at the Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invitational.

After shooting a 288 in the first round and a 290 in the second, the Coyotes finished the final round with a 296 for an 874 combined total that dropped them into a tie with Grand Canyon's second team.

No. 16 Cal State Stanislaus won the invitational with an 846 and were led by the invitational champion, Joseph Stewart, who shot a 207. Chico State was two strokes back in second and Grand Canyon was in third with an 854.

Gene Webster Jr. started the day as the leader of the field, but after shooting a 75, the senior dropped back into a tie for second with Western New Mexico's Scott Crichton as both had a three-round total of 209. Thomas Chu shot a 73 in the final round for a 219 overall score, finishing in a tie for 30th while Joe Alldis finished in a tie for 58th with a 226. Nick Kelly and Kenny Anthony each tied for 63rd with a 228 overall score. Kelly shot an 80 in the final round while Anthony fired a 75.
