Coyotes take third at San Marcos

Chu shot back-to-back 70's to close out the tournament.

SAN MARCOS — Cal State San Bernardino fired the second lowest third round with a 293 to finish third at the Cal State San Marcos Tournament. The Coyotes finished round one in sixth, and after the second round ended yesterday they stood fourth before four of the five scorers all shot tournament bests in the final round.

Holy Names won the event shooting under 300 all three rounds, the only team to do so, to finish with a total score of 868. California Baptist took second with an 883 just ahead of the Coyotes' 892.

Thomas Chu shot a 70 for the second straight round to finish fifth at 217 while Joe Alldis finished in 11th with a final round 73 to take his overall score to 221. Gene Webster Jr. closed out the tournament with a 77 for a total of 226 which tied him for 18th. Nick Kelley finished in a tie for 29th at 232 and Kenny Anthony was on shot behind with a 233 which tied him for 32nd.

CBU Carl Stjarnfalt won the tournament with a three-round score of 212, two strokes ahead of Holy Name's Stephen Edman who finished second.

The Coyotes are back in action March 1-2 when they host the CSUSB Coyotes Intercollegiate Tournament at Arrowhead Country Club.
