The only coach to ever lead Cal State San Bernardino to the NCAA Postseason, Tacy Duncan begins her fifth season as head coach of the Cal State San Bernardino softball team. Over the past four seasons Duncan has compiled a 105-114-1 record after taking over a team that had gone 38-129 the previous three seasons.
In 2008, the Coyotes posted a 36-32-1 record, recording the second most wins in school history and finished in the top three in the California Collegiate Athletic Association before making the schools first NCAA Division II West Regional. After entering the regional as the No. 8 seed, the Coyotes finished fourth. The run included an upset in the first round over top-seeded Humboldt State.
Last season, Duncan finished with a 23-25 record and was 13-19 in the CCAA after losing eight players, including the CCAA Player of the Year from that 2008 team.
Duncan went 21-32 in her first season at the helm before hitting the .500 mark in 2007 with a 27-27 overall record.
She is the fifth head coach in the history of the softball program, dating back to 1987-88.
Duncan was a physical education instructor for the Alvord Unified School District in Riverside County until the end of the 2007-08 school year. She holds a master's degree in counseling from Redlands and a bachelor's degree in K-12 education from Mary (N.D.).
She played Division I softball at Iowa State from 1997-99 and was a two-time NAIA All-American at Mary as well as a two-time NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete. She led her team to two conference titles, two NAIA regional titles and two appearances in the NAIA national championship tournament. She was conference pitcher of the year twice.
The former Sonora, Calif., resident has international experience, playing in the European Softball Championships in Italy in 2002 and was a member of a USA national team that competed in the Czech Republic, Australia and Germany.
Duncan lives in Riverside with her husband Shannon and twin daughters, Jordana and Madison.
