SAN BERNARDINO — Travis Clarke, Head Women's Soccer Coach at Cal State San Bernardino, announced the hiring of assistant coach Emmy Cornwell who replaces former assistant Lucas Pepi.

Prior to this appointment, Cornwell spent 2009 working for the LA Galaxy as an LA Galaxy Street Team Member where she was responsible for promoting the LA Galaxy brand and various sporting events throughout Southern California. In addition to working with the LA Galaxy, Cornwell served as an intern for the Big West Conference, the UCLA Athletics Department and the University Club of Santa Barbara.

Cornwell earned a bachelor's degree in communication from Westmont College in and a master's in sports management from the University of San Francisco in 2008

On the field, Cornwell started in goal for the Warriors from 2002-2005 and won two NAIA National Championships in 2002 and 2003. She currently holds the Westmont record for goal against average in a single-season at 0.34 per game.

“We are excited to have Emmy join our team,” said Clarke. “She has a lot of passion for the sport and is very interested in the total development of the student athlete. We are looking for her to bring the championship attitude to our daily lives here at CSUSB and create an atmosphere of success and competition through hard work. I feel that Emmy will do a great job in creating relationships with the student-athletes and will also be a great training resource for our goalies. I feel that Emmy will hit the ground running and will help keep our program moving forward in 2010.”

Cornwell will be responsible for team travel plans, equipment management, game day operations, recruiting, camps and goalie training. CSUSB will also return Jason Montgomery and Leonard Griffin to the 2010 staff.
