WALNUT CREEK — Cal State San Bernardino James Kono has been named the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week for the week of April 12-18, it was announced on Wednesday.
Kono, a senior from Pomona, Calif., led the Coyotes, offensively, to a four-game series sweep of San Francisco State and its first berth in the CCAA Tournament since 2005. He batted .533 (8-for-15) with seven runs scored, two doubles, a triple, three home runs and 11 RBIs, while recording a 1.400 slugging percentage and .563 on-base percentage.
In the first two games of the series, Kono went 7-for-9 (.778) with six runs scored, two doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI - all against his former team.
Cal State San Bernardino returns to action on Friday when it hosts Cal State East Bay in the opener of a four-game series.
