Rains in the Chico area have cancelled Friday's doubleheader

CHICO – Wet weather in northern California has forced the cancellation of Friday's scheduled softball doubleheader between Chico State and Cal State San Bernardino. The Wildcats and Coyotes will try to salvage part of the washed out twinbill Saturday, playing a single game following the already-scheduled doubleheader that begins at 10:00 a.m. at University Softball Field.

With only scattered showers during the morning, both teams were hoping to play at least one game of Friday's doubleheader. At around 11:00 a.m. the showers increased, giving away to steady rain about 30 minutes later, effectively washing out both of the scheduled contests. Rain is forecast to fall into the evening hours, with cloudy skies and no precipitation expected on Saturday.

With three games on tap Saturday, it will make for a full day of softball as Chico State and Cal State San Bernardino square off in an important California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series. The Wildcats, ranked No. 8 in the NCAA West Region, and the Coyotes are among several CCAA schools battling for one of four conference tournament berths.
