RHONERT PARK — Cal State San Bernardino went toe-to-toe with Sonoma State despite falling 5-1 to the Seawolves.
In hopes of beating the rain in the Northern California area, the Coyotes (0-3) started with singles and two of the six matches needed a third set to finish while one nearly went into a third set.
Isabella Fraczek moved to 2-1 on the year at No. 3 singles with a win over Jeanette Peck. The freshman trailed 1-0 in the match after getting blanked on the first set 6-0. Fraczek then rebounded to win the next two sets 6-3 and 6-2 to give the Coyotes their lone win.
Allison Brooks also took her opponent to a third set at No. 6 singles. Brooks lost the first set to Jessica Harris, 6-1, but took the second set at 6-4. Harris took the final set at 6-3. Kara Jenkins was just two points away, in a tiebreaker, from forcing a third set at No. 5 singles against Stephanie Hoffmire. Jenkins dropped the first set 6-1 and forced a tiebreaker at 6-6 in the second. Hoffmire trailed 5-1 in the tiebreaker, but scored seven of the next eight points to win the tiebreaker 8-6 and the match 2-0.
Christina Torres lost 6-1, 6-1, to Stephanie Luk at No. 1 singles, Brittany Choate fell 6-0, 6-1 to Haley Hickcok at No. 2 singles while Janay Palicte lost 6-0, 6-1 to Molly Maguire.
The Coyotes will play Cal State Stanislaus, Friday, at 3 p.m. in a match that was moved from Saturday.
