SAN BERNARDINO — Jessica Mortola, a redshirt freshman who spent the last two years at UC Davis, has signed with Cal State San Bernardino for the fall 2010 season. The goalkeeper from San Luis Obispo, Calif., will complete the winter and spring quarters at UC Davis before transferring to CSUSB. Mortola redshirted her first year for the Aggies and was a reserve last year.

Mortola was a standout club and high school goalie. She's a three-time All-Pac 7 first team selection (2006–2008) and was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year in 2008.  As a senior, she set a school-record with 19 shutouts, leading her team to an overall record of 27-1-2 and a league championship.  She was also named All-CIF Southern Section Division II in 2006 and 2008.

She played her club soccer for Santa Barbara Soccer Club G89 in the Coast Soccer League Premier Division.  SBSC G89 was ranked as high as No. 12 in Southern California by GotSoccer.com.

In addition to athletics, Mortola was the San Luis Obispo High School senior class president in 2008, junior class secretary in 2007 and the athletic commissioner in 2006.  She participated in the 2007 Women's Nike Half Marathon and has personally raised $5,200 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Organization. 

Jessica will be majoring in Kinesiology at CSUSB and graduated from San Luis Obispo High School with a 3.8 GPA.

“At 5-8 Jessica will add some more size to our team in 2010,” said CSUSB head coach Travis Clarke. “She is a big, physical goalie that is very good at stopping shots and dealing with crosses. She has gained high level club experience with Santa Barbara Soccer Club, won championships at San Luis Obispo High School and had two years of training at UC Davis where she red shirted and played in some spring games.  We are excited that Jessica chose our school after deciding to transfer from UC Davis. I know the decision was hard for her and her family especially considering she was in line to fight for playing time in 2010 at a good NCAA Division I school. We feel that Jessica will be great addition to our team and university and will provide our goalies with a ton of competition for the starting job in fall
