Ragains, Urzua combine for 36 points but second half rally falls short

    All-CCAA guard Reyana Colson scored 23 points on a variety of layups and jumpers in the lane Tuesday night and Megan Ford had a double-double in the post as West Region No. 5 Cal Poly Pomona defeated Cal State San Bernardino, 67-56, in a CCAA conference women's basketball game in Coussoulis Arena.
     The victory improved the Broncos to 14-4 on the season and 11-3 in the CCAA while the Coyotes are now 11-8 overall and 7-7 in the CCAA with back-to-back games coming up Friday at home against Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State.
    Colson hit eight of 12 field goals, seven of 11 free throws and made four steals while Ford had 12 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Stephisha Walton contributed 13 points, three assists and four rebounds.
    The Coyotes were led by senior guard Krystal Urzua with 19 points, three assists, three steals and three rebounds in a 40-minute performance. Urzua hit eight of 15 field goals and two of three from beyond the three-point line.
    Junior forward Amanda Ragains enjoyed her best game since a 21-point, 19-rebound performance a month ago, scoring 17 points and draining five of six three-point attempts. She also blocked two shots.
    The Broncos shot 56 percent from the field (27 of 48) and outrebounded CSUSB 32-24. The Coyotes shot 41 percent (20 of 49) and 53 percent from the three (8 of 15) but made only eight of 16 foul shots (50 percent). The two teams combined for 34 turnovers.
    Cal Poly took a 36-25 lead by outscoring CSUSB 13-2 in the final 4:34 of the half and quickly expanded that lead by scoring the first six points of the second half for a 42-25 advantage with 16:54 remaining.
    However, the Coyotes made a run of their own, outscoring the Broncos 15-5 to get within five at 45-40 on a three-pointer by Urzua with 12:31 left in the game.
    The Broncos regained the initiative and took a 61-49 lead with a 16-9 run to lead by 12 points with 4:54 reamining on a Colson jumper. 
    Pomona dominated the middle, outscoring CSUSB 34-6 in the paint.
