Junior point guard key factor in three Coyotes wins last week

Corey Caston
Junior point guard Corey Caston today was named the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association player of the week for his performances last week that helped Cal State San Bernardino win three games and vault into a clear lead in the CCAA at 8-1.
Caston averaged 16.6 points, 5.0 assists and 2.6 rebounds a game as the Coyotes swept past rival Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State L.A., and Cal State Dominguez Hills to improve to 10-3 on the season.
CSUSB is 8-1 since Caston joined the team on Dec. 17. In those nine games, Caston has averaged 10.8 points, 5.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds a game with 17 steals and has made 88 percent of his free throws (30 of 34).
The transfer from Pasadena City College, where he led the state in assists per game and set single-season and career records for assists for his team, was an instrumental part of the team's success this past week.
In the Coyotes' first win on the road at Pomona since 2004, Caston had 11 points, three rebounds, eight assists and a steal. In the team's win over Cal State L.A., he had a season-high 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Against the Toros on Saturday night, he was the team's high scorer with 18 points and dished out three assists.
Caston and his teammates hit the road this week for games at Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday and San Francisco State on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast on radio at KCAA-1050-AM at 7:30 p.m. and webcast at www.csusbathletics.com.
