Hoffman earns academic honor

Senior setter on ESPN-The Magazine All-District 8 Academic 1st team

Sara Hoffman is a ESPN-The Magazine first-team all-District 8 Academic Team member.
     Sara Hoffman is a two-time all-American on the volleyball court and now she has a shot at being an academic all-American.
     The senior setter from San Clemente has been voted to the ESPN-The Magazine Academic all-District 8 (West Region) first team by members of the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA).
      All first team selections in the eight NCAA districts for Division II,  Division III and NAIA colleges and universities are considered for Academic All-America honors.
     Hoffman has a 3.46 grade point average in her business major with an emphasis in marketing.
     She ranks among the top 20 in the nation in assists per set at 11.34 with 805 assists in 24 matches this season over a total of 71 sets. She also averages 2.23 digs per set and has served up 16 aces. In addition, she has 30 blocks, one solo.
     Hoffman was an American Volleyball Coaches Association first-team all-American as a junior and third-team as a sophomore. She has more than 3,500 assists thus far in her four-year career with four CCAA regular season matches remaining and a certain trip to the NCAA West Regional later this month.
     The Coyotes are ranked No. 1 in the current West Region rankings and No. 3 in the nation. CSUSB continues CCAA play at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night at 7 p.m. followed by a key match at Cal State L.A. at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
      Also named to the all-District 8 first team were Rikki Buckshnis of Sonoma State (3.91 gpa in economics; Jackie Hamilton of University of Redlands (3.91 in government studies), and Fei Shi of Cal Baptist (3.83 in accounting.)
      Second team selections included Jasmine Davis of Cal Poly Pomona (3.58 in business) and Lindsay Brown of Sonoma State (3.49 in sociology). Making the third team were Katie Condon of UC San Diego (3.53 in human development) and Kelina Smith of Redlands (3.85 in government studies).
