Coyotes junior named to Daktronics second team

    Junior forward Albert Cabrera of Ontario (Chaffey HS) has been voted to the Daktronics/NCAA Div. II all-West Region men's soccer second team by sports information directors at colleges and universities in the region.
    Cabrera had a breakout season for the 15-6-1 Coyotes, scoring 12 goals and assisting on seven others for a team-high 31 points. He had four match-winning goals to his credit as CSUSB qualified for both the CCAA conference championship tournament and the NCAA West Regional.
    Cabrera was an all-CCAA first-team pick by the conference coaches.
    The Coyotes lost to CCAA champion Cal State Dominguez Hills, 2-1, in the conference tourney, then dropped a 5-3 decision to Cal State L.A. in the regional semifinals, after making their first appearance in the NCAA event since 1991, the year CSUSB won the CCAA title.
    Sam Charles of Montana State Billings was voted the region player of the year with 24 goals for the 11-5-2 Yellowjackts. Five Dominguez Hills players earned all-region honors whole Sonoma State and Cal State L.A. each had four players recognized.
