SANTA ROSA -- Cal State San Bernardino struggled through inclement weather on Monday and could not improve their position Tuesday as the Coyotes wound up a disappointing 14th in the 15-team field at the 2009 Sonoma State Men's Golf Invitational at Santa Rosa Golf Club.
The 54-hole tournament was cut short by Monday's bad weather and slow play since a collegiate women's tournament was conducted simultaneously with the men's.
The best any Coyote golfer could do was a tie for 33rd spot by senior Joe Alldis who carded back-to-back rounds of 75 for a 150 total on the par-72, 6,711-yard course. Senior Gene Webster had the team's low round of the day, a 74, but finished a stroke back of Alldis at 151, good for a tie for 40th spot.
CSUSB edged last place Notre Dame de Namur by three shots. It was the worst finish in a regular season tournament by the Coyotes since they were 14th at the Western Washington Invitational on Sept. 26, 2005.
Chico State won the tournament with a 36-hole total of 578, two over par while the Coyotes were 41 over par, 39 shots back. Medalist honors went to Matthew Garcia of Academy of Art University with a six-under-par total of 138 on rounds of 68 and 70.
Sonoma State, the 2009 NCAA Div. II champion, was seventh at 591.
