Borman leads Coyotes with 17th place finish in 23:22.5

    LA JOLLA -- Freshman Samantha Borman continued to impress Saturday, finishing 17th in a field of 122 runners at the UC San Diego Tritons Classic and helping her team finish sixth in a field of 13 teams.
    Borman ran the 6,000 meter course in a personal best 23:22.5 in the team's final tuneup before the California Collegiate Athletic Association championships in two weeks at Humboldt State. 
    Two other CSUSB runners finished in the top 40 -- freshman  Rebekah Frazier (32nd in 24:00) and sophomore Niki Chesnut (37th in 24:32.1. Senior Anjuli Nieto was 42nd in 24:50.1 followed by senior Angelica Lopez in 43rd spot at 24:52.9.
     The Coyotes finished with 171 points, ahead of San Diego State (173), Cal State Bakersfield (195), University of San Diego, Albion, Western New Mexico, Grand Canyon and Imperial Valley JC.
     "Samantha ran really well," said Coach Tom Burleson. "In fact, the team ran well. There were a lot of PRs (personal records) set by our girls on this course today. We beat some Division 1 teams. I think we will be ready for the CCAA championships."
     Host UCSD was fourth and Cal Poly Pomona was fifth. Central Arizona won the team title with 58 points, finishing ahead of UC Irvine and University of Victoria.l
       Freshman Courtney Ciraulo also broke 25 minutes for the Coyotes, finishing in 24:57.8, good for 46th place while freshman Deserae Perez was 48th in 25:20.8. Sierra Morris, Kindra Funch, Shawna Alvarez, Vanessa Graff, Liz McConaughey, Gaby Neblina and Jennifer Garcia also competed.
