Coyotes finish 22nd in big UCR field

Chesnut leads way with 19:12 clocking on 5K course

Nikki Chesnut runs 19:12 for 5,000 meters at UCR Invitational
    RIVERSIDE -- Competing in a massive field of 336 runners from 34 schools and track clubs, Cal State San Bernardino finished in 22nd spot Saturday with an average team time of 19:54.12 over the 5,000-meter UC Riverside Highlander Invitational course. 
    Freshman Nikki Chesnut, as she has done in every meet thus far in 2008, was the first Coyote into the finish chute, timed in 19:12. She was 93rd overall but 73rd when the team points were factored.
Senior Kari Brandt was 102nd in 19:41.7 followed by senior Kristen Torrez in 129th spot with a time of 20:04.1. Rounding out the top five for CSUSB were Anjuli Nieto, 134th in 20:06.8, and Angelica Lopez, 146th in 20:26.0. 
    CCAA title contender Cal State L.A. finished seventh in the meet while Cal State Dominguez Hills was 34th and last. 
    Brigham Young University on the team title with 46 points with host UCR second (55) and Cal State San Marcos third at 131.CSUSB had 584 points. 
    The individual winner was Dallon Williams of Cal State San Marcos in 16:55.9. 
    This was the fifth straight meet for the Coyotes who will now take a break this week and resume running on Oct. 11 at the Tritons Invitational at UC San Diego.
