LA JOLLA – Freshman Nikki Chesnut ran 6,000 meters in 24:36.7 Saturday to lead Cal State San Bernardino to a 15th place finish in a 24-team field at the 2008 NCAA Division II West Regional women's cross country championship.
Chesnut was the 60th runner to cross the finish line in a field of 160 runners.
Junior Anguli Nieto was the next Coyote to finish, in 71st place in 25:01.2, followed closely by senior captain
Kari Brandt, closing out her collegiate career in a time of 25:02.6 good for 72nd spot.
Senior Alena Mohd-Yusof closed out her collegiate running career, finishing 85th in 25:21.6 and fourth among Coyotes runners. Junior
Shawna Alvarez was the fifth Coyote to finish, in 25:50.7, good for 101st.
The Coyotes finished just five points out of 14th spot.
CCAA champion Chico State won the regional meet with 60 points followed by Seattle Pacific with 92 points. Alaska Anchorage was third (104) followed by Cal State L.A. (114) and Western Washington (141).
Jessica Pixler of Seattle Pacific defended the West Region individual title she won in 2007, timed in a blistering 20:57.1 over the 6K course at UC San Diego. Tori Tyler of Chico State was second in 21:33.9. Freshman Bre Schofield of UCSD was fifth in 21:44.2
